Gorenje is performing the open competition for designing smart kitchen accessories

Gorenje, d.d., in cooperation with Gallery Velenje and Biennial of industrial design - BIO 22, is performing the open competition for designing smart kitchen accessories, inspired by the simplicity trend. The competition starts on September the 1st, 2010 and lasts until October the 10th, 2010. The jury will announce the results within 30 days from the submission deadline. Competition solutions will be presented publicly in Gallery Velenje in November and December 2010.

Contents of competition materials and terms of competition

1.0 Definition of the task and competition objectives

Gorenje, d.d., is calling for competition to obtain a design solution for a contemporary, high-quality, distinctive smart kitchen accessories inspired by the simplicity trend.

2.0  Contents of the competition detailed report

2.1  Smart kitchen accessories inspired by the simplicity trend which:

• are used in the kitchen
• are from authentic, quality materials (eco friendly if possible)
• minimalistic form should follow the function (must be extremely useful)
• represent clever, original solution to everyday problems/situations/usage
• respond to cooking trends
• support healthy cooking
• are part of a wider accessory collection with recognizable and distinguishing design elements
• are based on the simplicity trend – easy to use

2.2  A short description of the design solution

3.0  Structure (equipment) of the competition detailed report

3.1  Detailed reports must be presented on an A3 sheet, horizontally (Kappa 3 mm).
3.2  Each component of the detailed report should be signed with a code in the upper right corner.
3.3  A list of all detailed report components and a sealed envelope with the author's name and declaration of design originality should be enclosed with the report.
3.4  A special envelope containing the address for returning the project should also be enclosed.
3.5  Competition detailed report can be submitted personally or mailed to the following address:

4.0 General terms

The competition is public and anonymous.

5.0   Deadlines

5.1   The competition starts on 1 September 2010 and lasts until 10 October 2010. If the design solutions are submitted by mail, the date of the post office seal applies.
5.2   The deadline for submitting questions regarding the competition is 10 September 2010.
5.3   The jury will announce the results within 30 days from the submission deadline.
5.4   Competition solutions will be presented publicly. Works that will not be awarded will be returned to the participants within 15 days after the end of public presentation.

6.0   Awards and compensations

6.1   The jury will award 3 prizes. Authors of awarded solutions will be offered the possibility of purchase and manufacture or the possibility for individual exhibition. Students will be offered the possibility of one month education at GDS (Gorenje Design Studio).
6.2   By awarding the prize, the competition commissioner does not purchase the material copyrights for using the idea solution; copyrights are subject to subsequent agreement or contract.
6.3   In case that none of the projects submitted meets the prize awarding criteria, the jury reserves the right to award the prizes at its own discretion or not to award any prizes at all.

7.0   The jury

7.1   The jury:

7.2   The jury will evaluate the submitted projects according to the following criteria:
• meeting the general terms of the competition
• artistic clarity, originality
• contemporary design and openness to application diversity


8.0   Final provisions

8.1   Decisions of the jury are final.
8.2   Any project may be eliminated from the competition, if:
• the project is submitted after the submission deadline,
• the project does not comprise the required elements,
• the project does not reach the required level of sophistication,
• the project ideas and concepts are not in line with competition requirements.
8.3   By awarding the prize, the competition commissioner does not purchase the material rights. In order to employ the selected work, the competition commissioner will sign an agreement with the author.
8.4   Gorenje reserves the right to select a project for realization entirely at its own discretion.
8.5   Any disputes regarding the competition at hand will be resolved at the court of Gorenje's headquarters jurisdiction.
